This part 2 of the ‘Meditations for COVID-19 resources’ is focused on the practise of mantra and particular, the grand healing mantra called the Mahamrityunjaya (Ma-ham-rit-yun-jaya) mantra. It is ancient mantra that dates back approximately 1500 – 1200 BC originating from the Rigveda, which indicates that the mantra has lasted the through time.

In particular, there is an excellent internet resource and article on the ancient practise that has lasted through the times (see swamji.com). The article breaks down each of the syllables within the mantra, and their meanings so that you can understand why they are so powerful.

Mantra itself is a very powerful spiritual practise that helps us to accelerate our spiritual journey. Its one of the most effective ways to stablise the mind in a very short amount of time. Why and how does that happen? Through resonance and sound ie. vibrational energy. Its almost the same reason why some songs and music are so emotional and hits us on a level that we can resonate with.

Different syllables are strung together in mantra that vibrate in a certain manner and thus this vibration engages our body in the ways that help stablise your mind and concentration. The words and syllables are not by accident but by choice. The fact that the mantra has lasted for so long gives testament to its long-lasting effects overtime.

Start with a simple 8 rounds that I have done so in the recording. And as you perform this and gain familiarity, feel free to increase it by another 8, and if you have some mala beads that can help you to keep count, feel free to go up to 108 rounds (this is ~30 minutes).

Enjoy the Part 2 of learning the mantra. If you feel this has been helpful for yourself feel free to share with others.

Cheers,
